Eat well, live well
Leigh-Anne Franklin founded Avani Health and Wellness in 2012 with one main goal: to inspire older women (we know who we are!) to be as healthy as possible, for as long as possible, while living a life they only dreamed possible. Healthy eating and a positive attitude are vital in aging well and living well. That’s where we come in. We help you understand your unique nutritional needs, set goals for healthier living, take steps to get you there, and have fun along the way.

Hi there. I’ve been practicing health and wellness, in one form or another, for as long as I can remember. As a kid, I remember showing my best friend how to make a “healthier” peanut butter cup. As a teenager, I monitored my calories like a sadistic sergeant-major (definitely not recommended!), and when I had my two daughters, I perfected home-made baby-food recipes so they could have the yummiest, most nutritional start to life. About the same time I was trying to solve the mystery of packing healthy school lunches that kids would eat, I earned my B.Sc in Kinesiology with a major in Health Promotion and officially began my career in health and wellness. I’ve spent years as a vegetarian and tried many alternative diets such as raw foods, vegan, and gluten free. Today, with my kids grown and out of the house, I’m completing a Masters degree in Nutritional Education and am all about finding the right nutritional balance for my body and mind and this time in my life.
I’m fortunate that I’ve always enjoyed being active and learning about food and healthy eating. But I’ve also fought my own demons regarding weight and body image. By the time I hit mid-forties, just as I managed to wrestle my life-long demons under control, a new one jumped into the ring and introduced himself: aging. He was armed with wrinkles, and age spots, and hot flashes, and whispered evil things like my life is all downhill from here. Well, if he thought I was going to roll over he had another thing coming!
Aging is natural, not negative. Aging brings us the strength, and wisdom, and time to look after ourselves in a way we’ve never been able to before. OK, we’re not 25 anymore, but who cares? At 45, or 55, or 85 we can be happier and healthier than we’ve ever been. I’d like women everywhere to join me as we take control over our health and wellness and kick our personal demons where it hurts!
